A: All web cams with a 1Mpx or bigger sensor can record HD video @ about 5-10 fps.

A: Clearly the best web cams are the Microsoft LifeCam Cinema HD and the Logitech Webcam Pro 9000
. Both can record HD video at 15-30fps.

A: Yes you can, by default this limit is set to 2 minutes!

A: A video recorded at 512kbits/s will use about 4Mbytes/minute.

A: No, they are deleted automatically!

A: Sorenson Spark for the video data and NellyMoser for the audio data. These are the encoding codecs built in Flash Player.
Q: Can the video be encoded with the vp6 or h.264 codecs?
A: No, Flash Player can only encode video using the Sorenson Spark codec.

No, flv is a container! It can contain audio data , video data, meta data like length and resolution, keyframe information, ec... .

A: ffmpeg is a good server side tool.
Q: Can HDFVR record from DV/miniDV camcorders connected over FireWire/IEEE1394?
A: Yes
if they are set up to output DV (not HDV) data.
Q: Can I play the resulting .flv files directly from the media server?
A: Yes, trough streaming.
